This one or another! We meet on the first Wednesday of the month at 5 pm on Zoom: join our next meeting

Join a group

Just One Thing November: Write a letter

This is a worth while activity. You can start with a letter to your local newspaper or village or town magazine, letting people know of the existence of Our Grandchildren's Climate, letting them know of some of the things we have been doing and encouraging them to join. A example of a letter will be coming soon.

The next layer up is to contact your local authority, whether it is a Parish, District, Borough or County Council. Write them a letter stating who you are and asking for information about what actions they are taking in relation to Our Grandchildren's Climate's aims of trying to ensure that the world where future generations grow-up will be safe, healthy and just. Most County Councils declared a climate emergency in 2019, and have published a plan. Read it, Hold them to account!

Write to your Member of Parliament voicing your concerns. Put your postcode in to www.writetothem.com and you'll find the email addresses of not only your MP, but local councillors too. And do tell us what they replied

For example, there's still time to write to your MP about stopping the development of  Rosebank oil and gas field. Click here for a draft letter.

Just One Thing October: Change where you bank

Did you know that if you bank with one of the four major banks your money is being used to fund fossil fuels and often other activities that are contributing to climate breakdown?. Click here to find our information on what you current account and savings accounts are funding and  find out how you could move, so it benefits the world. There is more information on finances in the resource section under CLIMATE INFORMATION. Some examples below:

www.banktrack.org: An international tracking, campaigning and civil society support organisation targeting private sector commercial banks;

www.bankingonclimatechaos.org: Reports on banks worldwide and their investments in fossil fuels;

www.bank.green: Some Local Councils are now suggesting how you can switch your bank account.  Bank.Green is sounding the alarm on the climate-destroying activities of banks while recommending sustainable alternatives and empowering consumer action.

www.bankbetter.uk/about/ guides people to good and bad places to put their money. Lists and grades banks etc on what (if any) investments they have in Fossil Fuels companies, Arms Companies complicit in Gaza, Companies involved in occupying Palestine & Arms Companies making nuclear weapons.
