The Met Office is currently looking for people to suggest up to 5 names for storms.
It would be great if thousands all suggested the same 5 names (in alphabetical order as that's how storm names apoear):
BigOil, BP, Equinor, Exxon, Shell.
This is a creative, humorous and peaceful way to register our concerns and protest to a government body. Whilst the Met Office is unlikely to adopt any of the above 5 names, if they are suggested in huge numbers it may attract media coverage, as was the case with Boaty McBoatface but with more serious intent. This would be enough to make the point to the government and the wider British public, might even get some overseas attention. Do mention Our Grandchildren's Climate in their comments box

Did you see The Herds (life size animal puppets) in London last week? They're reappearing in Manchester 3-5 July, on their journey from Africa to the Arctic. Open to the public (details here www.theherds.org).

Come to our next Full Meeting on-line on Wednesday 2nd July at 5pm. For a Zoom link get in touch, info@ourgrandchildrensclimate.org. Meg O’Neill, Head of Movement Building, The Climate Coalition, will talk about the lobby on 9th July.

At our meeting on 4th June a presentation was made by Kevin Reilly about the work of ShareAction (for their details look at our RESOURCES page) who have been particularly busy lobbying at Company AGMs at the moment. There will be no meeting in August but we return on 3rd September at 5 pm.
Worried about climate change? Thought you were in the minority? Join the majority! The overwhelming majority of the world’s people — between 80 and 89%, according to recent science, and depending on country — want governments to take stronger action on climate change. But that fact is not reflected in our news coverage, which helps explain why the 89% don’t know that they are the global majority. https://89percent.org or https://coveringclimatenow.org .
Despite increasingly urgent warnings from science about the risks to the planet - and increasingly frequent and severe damage to earth, land and sea - emissions of the greenhouse gases which cause the damage to the climate are continuing to rise. It’s no wonder that more and more of us fear for our descendants’ future.

Although there is still much disbelief and scepticism around climate change, our Government published a report in 2024 showing that the majority of people are concerned about the problem: DESNZ Public Attitudes Tracker: Net Zero and climate change, Spring 2024, UK - GOV.UK.

We’re not just a British initiative. We’re also part of an international movement of senior citizens’ environment groups, and are members of European Grandparents for Climate (www.grandparentsforclimate.eu). We support peaceful protest; we lobby politicians and business leaders; we write to newspapers and broadcasters, we engage on social media, and we work with like-minded groups.
We depend on passionate volunteers, and we’re funded by members’ contributions and donations. No-one who works for OGC earns anything from it. We have no ties to political groups or to industry.
Our starting point is the principle on which we work. Climate change is now incontrovertible.
