Many of us are writing to our Members of Parliament about our climate concerns. Even if we have MPs who agree with us, it is good that they can say how many constituents are writing to them on a particular topic. The easiest way for contacting your local MP is to use the (free) website www.writetothem.com, stating your post code. Please mention Our Grandchildren's Climate and our website (www.ourgrandchildrensclimate.org) when doing so. The website will later ask you whether you received a response. You can also contact your own Local Councillors this way. Stuck for a question, for instance about unspent Council "climate money"? Some suggestions here: https://councilclimatescorecards.uk/methodology/

Insurance is a climate change issue and an issue for future generations. It's a double issue. More and more people in the UK are living on potential flood plains. Who is going to insure their houses? Californians are already discovering that they are uninsurable following recent fires. Even the re-insurers, the companies that insure the insurance companies are getting worried. (https://coveringclimatenow.org/event/press-briefing-is-insurance-the-next-big-climate-story/). And there's more: Street protests have recently been taking place across the UK (as in Bristol, see picture below) against the insurance companies that are themselves investing heavily in fossil-fuels.

Worried about climate change? Thought you were in the minority? Join the majority! The overwhelming majority of the world’s people — between 80 and 89%, according to recent science, and depending on country — want governments to take stronger action on climate change. But that fact is not reflected in our news coverage, which helps explain why the 89% don’t know that they are the global majority. https://89percent.org or https://coveringclimatenow.org . If you still wonder about those figures, read our own Government’s 2024 study, which reveals that 83% of over 65s in the UK worry about climate change. But what are people prepared to do about climate change? The Journal Nature has recently published a worldwide study of people’s willingness to contribute financially: “About two-thirds of the global population report being willing to incur a personal cost to fight climate change, and the overwhelming majority demands political action and supports pro-climate norms. This indicates that the world is united in its normative judgement about climate change and the need to act”. Read more: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41558-024-01925-3
